David Marshall has seemingly moved a step closer to becoming a Hull City player.

According to the BBC, it has emerged from Cardiff’s head coach Paul Trollope that the player has agreed a contract with the club.

“He’s agreed personal terms, so that is imminent,” Trollope said.

Hull’s bid for the player was accepted by Cardiff yesterday, with the club’s offer believed to be in the region of £5 million.

Marshall was not named as part of the Cardiff squad to face Reading in their Championship game earlier today. This gave 24-year-old Ben Wilson only his third appearance for the club.

After spells at Celtic and Norwich, Marshall moved to Cardiff in 2009, making 276 appearances. It looks as if his last appearance for them came last week against their 2-2 draw against Fulham in the league.

If he does join the club, Marshall will surely be fighting Allan McGregor for the number one shirt. The two already fight for position in the Scottish national squad when McGregor is fit.

As his compatriot is out injured until the New Year, Marshall may be preferred to Eldin Jakupovic for the first half of the season.

It may cast doubts over Eldin Jakupovic or Dusan Kuciak’s position at the club as well as it seems unlikely they would be content with being third-choice or fourth-choice at the club.

If the transfer goes through, Marshall will become the fourth Scot at the club alongside Andrew Robertson, Robert Snodgrass and Shaun Maloney.
