Hull named as possible suitor for Jordan Rhodes
Hull have been linked with Middlesbrough forward Jordan Rhodes in the January transfer window, according to the Daily Mail.
Rhodes, who was instrumental in the North East side’s run back to the Premier League, has struggled for first-team football in the 2016-17 season, making only four appearances, scoring no goals.
Hull, however, are not the only team interested in the 26-year-old, with Aston Villa, Brighton and Hove Albion, Burnley, Celtic, Norwich City and Sheffield Wednesday all showing interest in the forward.
After joining the club for the second part of last season for a fee thought to be in the region of £9 million, the 26-year-old made 12 appearances, scoring six goals in ‘Boro’s promotion back to the top-flight.
He made his name in the lower leagues of English football with Huddersfield Town and Blackburn Rovers before his big-money move in February. Rhodes scored 87 goals in 148 appearances and 85 in 169 in all competitions for the sides between 2009 and 2016.
‘Boro manager Aitor Karanka has confirmed Rhodes could potentially depart in the upcoming window, but only if a respectful price is offered.
“Jordan is a player in the squad but if he wants to leave, if we receive the right offer from a club that want to buy him, and we are happy with the deal, then fine,” he said.
Hull head coach Mike Phelan has already stated that he is aiming to strengthen the Hull squad in the January transfer window – and Rhodes could resolve Hull’s striker crisis.
The team started the season with four strikers, but Dieumerci Mbokani is only on loan and is yet to score and Will Keane now out for the remainder of the season. Their strikeforce has also been incredibly blunt, with top-scoring striker Adama Diomande only scoring three goals in all competitions so far this season.
