Hull City goalkeeper Allan McGregor has become the latest Tigers player to be linked with a move to Steve Bruce’s Aston Villa in the January transfer window, according to the Daily Record.

McGregor spent three seasons playing for Bruce since signing for the club from Besiktas in 2013, making 103 appearances in all competitions.

The 34-year-old has not started a single match for the Tigers in the new 2016/17 season, with the Scotsman recovering from a serious back injury he suffered in the back end of last season. He had surgery on it in July and is believed to be close to a return.

The Scot is the second ‘keeper to be linked with a possible move to Villa Park, with Eldin Jakupovic already being named as a possible signing. Ahmed Elmohamady and Abel Hernandez have also been named with potential switches to the Midlands.

McGregor was instrumental in Hull’s promotion back to the Premier League last season, making 44 appearances for the Tigers.

The 34-year-old will know now that he could struggle for first-team football, with David Marshall signed in the summer and used as Phelan’s regular starter in goal alongside an in-form Eldin Jakupovic – who seems to be in the prime of his career in between the sticks.
